Local Dive Shop vs. Buying Scuba Gear Online

Short answer: buy anything that has to fit you or keep you breathing from a local dive shop, where it can be fitted, set up, and serviced by people who know you. Buy simple accessories wherever is easiest. And if the shop you trust also sells online, you can often get both.

What a local dive shop gives you that a website can't

  • Fit before you pay. Masks, fins, wetsuits, and BCDs fit every body differently. At our shop you can try gear on, and there are no glass cases and no pressure.
  • Setup and a check-out. A regulator, computer, or BCD should be assembled, tested, and explained before your first dive. We do that at the counter.
  • Service under the same roof. Our factory-trained technicians service what we sell, so when your regulator is due, you already know where it goes.
  • Warranty and parts programs. Some manufacturers only honor their warranty or parts programs on gear bought from an authorized dealer. Before you buy life-support gear from a marketplace seller, check that it qualifies.
  • Advice from people who dive it. We teach from Open Water through cave, CCR, and trimix, so we can tell you what will still suit you as your diving grows, not just what's on sale this week.

When buying online makes sense

  • You already know your exact size and model, for example a replacement for the same fins or mask.
  • Simple accessories: clips, spools, slates, defog, care products.
  • You live far from a shop you trust.

Quick answers

Is scuba gear cheaper online?

Sometimes, on accessories. On regulators, BCDs, and computers, an authorized dealer often has similar pricing, and you get fitting, setup, and warranty support included.

What should I never buy without trying on?

Your mask, wetsuit, and BCD. A leaking mask or a BCD that rides up can ruin a dive.

Can I buy online and still get it serviced locally?

Yes. Bring it in, or start a mail-in repair and we'll send you a quote before anything ships.
